The Legendary El Caballito Cerrero
Finally available in the USA for the first time! This legendary, but tiny distillery in Amatitan, El Caballito, nom 1114, has constantly and historically been regarded as one of Mexico's top distilleries, but due to it's complicated relationship with the CRT (regulatory board of tequila), El Caballito has had trouble getting its spirits certified. This elusiveness has lead their products to reach legendary status with aficionados worldwide.
One of the reasons this spirit is so unique is it's made from the chato agave. The chato is a short squat agave that many people in Mexico and Southern California might be familiar with. While it's not common for tequila and mezcal to be made out of this agave anymore, for hundreds of years it was one of the more historically used agaves in tequila production.
(the agave chato)
The agave chato produces a more vegetal, peppery, sweet agave nose than your traditional blue weber. The taste can best be described as vibrant earthy herbs and minerals lifted by sweet cooked agave and tropical fruits. El Caballito Cerrero Chato 46 definitely makes you feel like you've stepped back in time and are sharing a pour with the jimadors of the past!
Don't be afraid to try this agave spirit! While complex and higher proof, it's still very approachable for novices, and aficionados will savor every detail that opens up the more you enjoy! SHOP NOW
