Neta Espadin Con Frutas Agave Spirits 750ml
The crafting of pechuga-style spirits is a relatively new phenomenon in Logoche, but the distillation of agave with fruit is a longstanding tradition in the village and surrounding mezcalero communities of Miahuatlán, Oaxaca. These batches are generally made for special occasions and often in very small quantities.
Over the last few years, Simitrio Aquino has crafted several delicious small batches using different wild and cultivated magueyes, though he has primarily worked with capón Espadín harvested from family land or a medías with a family in the Etla region, known for producing particularly high-quality Espadín. As a creative and sometimes experimental distiller, Simitrio wanted to mix up his production during a period when the family was exclusively roasting, fermenting, and distilling Espadín. He set aside 120 liters of shishe (single-distilled low wines) from these capón Espadín plants from Etla and approximately six kilos of fruit for this unique batch
During a rainy stretch in July 2024, Simitrio combined the 120 liters of shishe with nearly equal amounts of banana, guava, apple, pineapple, grape, mango, and nance. Running the still under very low heat, he carefully distilled the mixture, composing a final batch of 45 liters, achieving a cordón cerrado at 48.6% ABV. This small and distinctive batch was selected by Chambers & Chambers Wine Merchants, our distribution partners in California. Only 54 bottles exist.
